Air Conditioning Repair with Fonda's Plumbing & heating

There’s nothing worse than turning on your air conditioner on a hot Alberta day—only to find out it’s blowing warm air. If your A/C unit isn’t cooling your home properly, don’t sweat it just yet. There are a few things you can check before calling in the professionals. At Fonda’s Plumbing & Heating, we know how frustrating HVAC issues can be, especially in the middle of summer. That’s why we’ve put together this quick troubleshooting guide to help you figure out what’s going on with your cooling system.

1. Check Your Thermostat Settings This might sound obvious, but it’s the first thing we recommend checking. Make sure your thermostat is set to “cool” and the temperature is set at least a few degrees lower than the current room temperature. Also, check to see if the batteries in your thermostat need to be replaced. A dead or malfunctioning thermostat can prevent your system from kicking in properly.

2. Inspect Your Air Filter A clogged or dirty air filter can severely restrict airflow, making it difficult for your air conditioner to cool your home. If your filter looks dusty or hasn’t been changed in over a month, it’s time to replace it. We always recommend keeping a few extra filters on hand during peak cooling season.

3. Take a Look at the Outdoor Unit Your A/C’s outdoor condenser unit needs clear airflow to function efficiently. Check for debris, overgrown weeds, or leaves that might be blocking the fan or vents. If the coil is covered in dirt or grime, it may need a gentle cleaning with a hose—just be sure the power is off before you start.

4. Listen for Unusual Sounds Grinding, buzzing or rattling noises can be signs of a mechanical issue, such as a loose part, worn-out belt or failing compressor. If your A/C is making strange sounds, it’s time to turn it off and book an A/C repair service before further damage is done.

5. Is It Time for Professional Help? If you’ve checked your thermostat, filter and outdoor unit, and your air conditioner still isn’t cooling, there could be a deeper issue at play. Refrigerant leaks, frozen evaporator coils or electrical problems all require licensed HVAC professionals to repair safely. Our team at Fonda’s Plumbing & Heating specializes in diagnosing and fixing all types of air conditioning issues.
